Starting Seeds, and Starting a Flower Farm in Minnesota
There’s something incredibly hopeful about starting seeds this time of year in Minnesota. Here at Brighter Day Flower Farm, a Lakeville MN flower farm, the season begins indoors with trays of soil and the first seedlings just starting to emerge.
While it’s still cold outside, I’ve been busy inside getting the first flowers of the season started under lights. Right now, my setup is simple, a grow tent with trays of soil and tiny seedlings just beginning to emerge. It’s not glamorous, but it’s the beginning of something I’ve been working toward for a long time.

This is the first year I’m officially launching Brighter Day Flower Farm here in Lakeville, Minnesota, and these early seedlings feel like the first real step in that process.
If you’d like to follow along as the farm grows, I’m sharing seasonal updates, what’s blooming, and early access to bouquet offerings through my email newsletter. You can sign up here to stay connected.
For years, I’ve grown vegetables as a way to feed my family. What started as a practical decision gradually became something I truly loved. Over time, I found myself drawn more and more to flowers, not just for how they look, but for how they make people feel.
Fresh, locally grown flowers have a way of bringing beauty into everyday life. They slow things down. They make a space feel intentional. And in a world that often feels rushed, I think that matters more than we realize.
That’s what led me here, turning a backyard growing space into a small, local flower farm serving the south metro, including Lakeville, Prior Lake, and nearby communities. This Lakeville MN flower farm is being built step by step, starting with seeds and growing into something that can serve the local community.
Right now, most of the work is happening behind the scenes.

I’m starting seeds for flowers like ranunculus, snapdragons, and zinnias, planning out garden beds, and figuring out the systems I’ll need to harvest and sell bouquets later this season. I’m also learning as much as I can, including working through a flower farming workshop by Lennie Larkin, which has been incredibly helpful for understanding how to grow flowers successfully on a small scale. As a new Lakeville MN flower farm, I’m focusing on building strong foundations that will support consistent, high quality blooms.
I’ll also be sharing what I’m learning along the way, from seed starting to harvesting and selling locally. If you’re interested in growing flowers yourself or simply want to support a local Lakeville MN flower farm, my newsletter is the best place to follow along.
There’s a lot to figure out, but that’s part of the process and part of what makes this exciting.
One of the things that matters most to me about this farm is that it’s something we’re building as a family.
My kids will be part of this, helping plant, harvest, and care for the space as it grows. There’s something really meaningful about letting them see what it takes to build something from the ground up, especially something rooted in nature and community. My hope is that they not only learn how things grow, but also what it means to show up consistently and take pride in their work.
Of course, farming in Minnesota comes with its own set of challenges, especially in the spring. The weather can shift quickly, and timing is everything when it comes to planting. But learning to work with the seasons instead of against them is part of what makes growing locally so rewarding.

Every step of this process, starting seeds, preparing beds, and watching the first blooms, builds toward something bigger.
As the season progresses, I’ll be sharing updates here on the blog, along with what’s growing and when flowers will be available. My goal is to offer seasonal, locally grown bouquets here in Lakeville, with options like porch pickup and occasional pop ups around the south metro.
If you’re local and love the idea of fresh, in season flowers grown right here in your community, I’d love for you to join my newsletter. Subscribers will be the first to know when flowers are available, along with behind the scenes updates from the farm.
